Clifford has been in the carving business since 1968, his father died in April of 1967 and he lived alone with his widowed mother. There used to be a carver that lived in Lagos and whenever he came home Clifford’s mother was impressed with the way he dressed, so she encouraged him to be a carver so he could dress well also.
Nature is his inspiration. "I look around mostly for things God made, but often is not visible except to searching eyes and mind."
"After my apprenticeship period was over, I met an old man that carved delicately. His name is the Almighty God. He has been my influence and major inspiration.
My style is mostly influenced by history, tradition, and customs. I am mostly into reality carving."
