Palm Wine Tapper

This is a picture of a typical working man in Nigeria, a palm wine tapper.  For as long as stories have been told the people in tropical Africa have tapped palm tree sap for making the palm wine beverage.  They either climb the tree to tap it standing, or in a more destructive practice fall the tree and tap it on the ground.

This man carries a jug on his head, as well as a flask in his hand.  The woven rope on his left shoulder is what he uses to climb the tree (much like the strap that used to be used by lumberjacks in the U.S. and Canada).

Carved in kings ebony, the front is very dark, with the lighter brown showing up on the back and sides.  He stands 16 inches tall by 3 inches wide, and weighs just under 2 pounds.

Price - $250.00
