I would like to introduce you to Adeyemi Victoria Ajewole-Fakeye (Yemi). She is a master carver from Ibadan, Nigeria. She has been carving in wood for 20 years, working as well with paint and stone. She married into a family of artists as well, her husband of the Fakeye traditional carving lineage.
Her tiny workshop is centralized in an arts district near the cultural center of Ibadan. There she collaborates with other artists, participates in the arts community, and creates in her own style.
Yemi has been influenced by many different styles. In her own words “I will say it is personal or developed style because I can work on any style whether abstraction or realism.”
